M1 helmet with surprise...

M1 helmet with surprise...

This helmet (front seam, swivel bales, brass fittings, circa 1943 issue, liner is a "Seaman Paper Co.") was found years ago in a junkyard among wrecked, decommissioned military surplus, somewhere in USA. I acquired it with a pile of WW2 rusty M1 helmet shells from that same location. This helmet was glued togheter with its liner and I just left it on a shelf for a decade... until one day it fell from that shelf (my cat...). Surprise: the hit separated the iron shell from the plastic liner, finally exposing the remains of a USMC camouflaged canvas cover. The helmet is shown with a US Navy chart printed in 1943 related to Tarawa Atoll, theater of one of the hardest battles the USMC fought in the Pacific theater that same year. One pair of USMC dog tags are on display. also with a "Globe & Anchor" hat insignia.
